Founded in 1860 by the eminent Victorian botanist, Duncan Napier, the practice was revived in the 1990s by medical herbalist Dee Atkinson MNIMH MCPP who practices at Napiers Edinburgh Clinic. Run by Monica Wilde, the business has changed direction over the past few years, to respond to the challenges of licensing and is focussed on growing its UK and international distribution.
In recent years we have licensed our herbal medicines to comply with EU legislation through our licensing company Rickard Lane's. So far 11 of our practitioner-strength, combination formulas have THR licenses, with a further 11 under MHRA assessment.
Through practitioner affiliates, there are Napiers shops & complementary medicine clinics in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Leigh. Napiers qualified herbalists & practitioners see around 22,000 patients a year in our clinics. As well as prescribing herbs in the dispensaries, many Napiers original formulas are sold throughout the world direct to consumers from our mail order service.
